Curly hair is super pretty, but it can also be super hard to take care of! Frizz, tangles, and bedhead can make curly hair feel like a lot of work sometimes. The good news is that having a good curly hair wash day routine can make a big difference! If you're wondering how to take care of curly hair, these easy steps can help keep your curls soft, bouncy, and healthy.

1. Shampoo

The first step in any curly hair routine is shampoo. Wet your hair completely, then gently massage a sulfate-free shampoo into your scalp with your fingertips. After that, rinse it all out.

When you're choosing a shampoo for curly hair, look for one that's sulfate-free because it's gentler and helps keep your curls from drying out.

2. Condition

Next, apply conditioner to the middle and ends of your hair. Use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to gently detangle your curls.

Leave the conditioner in for about 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing it out.

If you're shopping for a conditioner, ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, and aloe vera are great because they help keep curly hair soft and moisturized.

3. Curl Cream

Now it's time for curl cream! Rub a small amount between your hands and gently scrunch your curls upward.

Curl cream helps define your curls, makes them look soft and bouncy, and helps reduce frizz. It's one of the easiest curly hair tips if you want your curls to last longer.

4. Dry Your Hair

Gently squeeze the extra water out of your hair, but don't rub it with a regular towel because that can make curly hair frizzy.

Instead, use a soft cotton T-shirt or a microfiber towel. Keep scrunching your curls until they're damp, then let them air dry.

If you're in a hurry, you can also use a diffuser to dry your curls faster while helping them keep their shape.

5. Protect Your Curls Overnight

Your curls can get messy while you sleep, and brushing them the next morning usually makes them even worse!

Sleeping with a satin bonnet can help your curls stay in shape and reduce frizz overnight. If you don't have one, a satin or silk pillowcase works really well too.
